Using Lean Production in a Digital Transformation Environment to Improve Operational Performance: A Case Study

Abstract

Recently, It was noted that business environment has experienced significant changes in national and global level. The lean production system has emerged as one of the most important modern systems to keep pace with these changes, which aims to eliminate all types of waste, continuous improvement, and thus reduce costs, and then increase returns. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the concept of lean production, Another purpose of this study is investigating the extent of the possibility of using the lean production system in light of the digital transformation environment in order to improve operational performance and increase the competitiveness of companies operating in the agribusiness segment through a case study.
This research relied on the use of both the deductive and inductive approaches.
The results of the case study showed that the company does not adopt a lean production system, although it adopts some digital transformation practices in the agricultural production environment and in its operating environment. The results of the study also showed that there are many weaknesses within the company that represent waste for it, which can be overcome by applying the lean production system. There are also many strengths that would provide a suitable climate for applying this system in the company. The study results also concluded that in the agribusiness environment is identified that the most employed techniques are Value Stream Mapping, Production smoothing, Total Quality Management, Kaizen, Continuous flow, Long-term supplier and Customer relationship
