Measuring the Impact of the Voluntary level of Cash Holding on the Indicators of Banking Profitability and the Market Value of the Shares of Commercial Banks: Suggested Models and Practical Evidence from the Egyptian Banking Sector

Abstract

Study objective: Measuring the impact of the voluntary level of cash holding on the indicators of banking profitability and the market value of the shares of commercial banks in the light of the proposed accounting models, by applying to the Egyptian banking sector.
Design and Methodology: The study relied on the content analysis approach in examining the quarterly reports of commercial banks registered on the Egyptian Stock Exchange during the period from (2017 to 2020), with a total of (112) observation, for the purposes of designing three main models representing the study’s hypotheses, and The study relied on multivariate linear regression analysis using the Fixed Effect model as one of the longitudinal regression models of the Panal Data method, through the use of the (E-Views) program version and the (10) program (SPSS) (version 26).
Results and Recommendations: The study reached several results, the most important of which is that there is statistical evidence that there is a significant positive impact of the voluntary level of cash retention on each of : banking profitability indicators, market value of commercial bank shares in the Egyptian banking sector, and there is also a positive correlation with Significant effect between the indicators of banking profitability and the market value of the shares of commercial banks, and based on the previous results, the researcher recommends directing the accounting thought to conduct more research that can provide an additional explanation about the impact of the voluntary level of cash holding on the added economic value of the Egyptian banking sector, and work on introducing an Egyptian accounting standard Through it, it is possible to determine the optimal level of cash holding in commercial banks, due to its impact on the indicators of banking profitability and the market value of the shares of commercial banks.
Originality and Value: This study is the first of its kind in the Egyptian environment that sheds light on the research variables of this study, and as a contribution and a scientific addition to enriching the literature of accounting and financing thought regarding the impact of the voluntary level of cash holding on banking profitability indicators and the market value of shares of commercial banks in the Egyptian banking sector.
